(also known as Baptism)
As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him

The word “baptism” comes from the Greek word meaning 'to dip or immerse in water'. During a Baptism the Vicar will pour a little water over the baby or person being baptised. It is a beautiful and reverent service where the person being baptised will make promises to God to live a Christian life. If that person is a baby, the parents and Godparents will make those promises on behalf of the little one.

Anyone living in the parish of St Matthew’s Blackmoor and Whitehill is welcome to be baptised in the church, also if they have a connection with the church i.e.: were married there, or have relatives buried in the graveyard.

There is no fee but many people choose to make a donation towards the church.
​
Baptism services usually take place on Sundays at 12.30pm and there will be a meeting with the Vicar before the day to talk through the proceedings.
